I have 1 cup of broccoli sprouts every morning and another cup every night. The reason I do this I have read about sulforaphane doing all sorts of things that look like thy should help a person with Parkinson's. I have started documenting the various good things that Broccoli Sprouts - Sulforaphane should be able to help with (I am still documenting the details):
Broccoli Sprouts - Sulforaphane Benefits:
- Broccoli Sprout Beverage Can Clear Acrolein
- Sulforaphane may activate certain genes that protect cells against oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA-damage
- Sulforaphane may Treat Helicobacter pylori infections
- Sulforaphane may reduce gut inflammation
- Sulforaphane may reduce brain inflammation
- Sulforaphane may fix leaky gut
- Sulforaphane may improve mitochondrial function
- Sulforaphane may boost BDNF
- Sulforaphane may boost glutathione
- SFN exhibited significant antiviral activity against influenza (the flu), HIV, Epstein-Barr virus, and the hepatitis C virus
- Sulforaphane activates Nrf2-dependent antioxidant enzyme activities, thereby protecting stomach cells from oxidative injury
- Sulforaphane may treat depression
- Sulforaphane improved deficits in motor coordination and inhibited dopaminergic neuronal loss
- I will be providing details on all of these that are not hyperlinked
- From my reading, sulforaphane supplements are not very powerful. Maybe some are, but most are not. And they are expensive.
- I use broccoli sprouts myself because they are really cheap, they are used in many of the scientific studies, they are easy to grow and eat, and they are a food.
- There is also a brand of freeze dried broccoli sprouts that seem legitimate. I keep a container of this in case I run out of sprouts. It fills the gap for me: KOYAH - Organic Broccoli Sprout Powder. This is about $45 for 36 servings (yes, still expensive).
- One other option is broccoli seed tea. You make it yourself, so it is still cheap. You can learn about the tea by joining this FB group: Broccoli & Sulforaphane Research Group for Parkinson's disease.
Broccoli Sprouting Instructions: If you watch the two videos and read my instructions, you should have a pretty good handle on sprouting broccoli seeds!
